Research Partnership Empowers a Firm’s Transformation
Over the past 15 years, SRG Partnership has collaborated with the University of Oregon Energy Studies in Buildings Laboratory (ESBL) on numerous commercial and institutional buildings. What has emerged is a demonstrated continuous improvement in the areas of energy performance, cost effectiveness, and design innovation. Their integrated design process facilitates ESBL bringing new methods, materials and assumptions to the table, to solve problems offered by SRG. Instead of a one-way flow of information from university researchers to design practitioners, all participants experience a rich, two-way exchange.
Direct access to the lab and its researchers has facilitated a practice based on curiosity, investigation and application. What began as a focused effort on sustainable design is now producing opportunities for younger architects to develop expertise and emerge as leaders in the firm, their profession, and the community.
And for ESBL, taking research out of the abstract and placing it in the real world is energizing the pursuit of innovation along with the vigilance that makes long-term progress possible.
